I am writing on behalf of the members of the Fraternal Order of Police to advise you of our support for S. 2567, the “Stop Computer Crimes Proliferation Act.”
Given the pervasiveness of technology and computers in all aspects of modern life, crimes involving them have become commonplace. Due to their complex and technical nature, they are also some of the more difficult crimes to solve and prosecute. Congress recognized this over two decades ago when they passed the Computer Crime Enforcement Act, which provides grants to States to assist State and local law enforcement agencies in enforcing State and local criminal laws relating to computer crime, educating the public to prevent and identify computer crime, and in acquiring computer and other equipment to conduct investigations of computer crimes.
Your legislation would reauthorize this program through 2027 and provide needed tools and training to local and State law enforcement agencies so that they can better protect, educate, and serve the public. With these additional resources, more criminals will be caught and put behind bars, leading to safer communities nationwide.
